S4SD / DbD10 Begins
February 13, 2025 marked the kick off of the WOAS-FM 91.5 / Ontonagon Area Schools safe driving public service campaign. This state-wide initiative is called Strive 4 A Safer Drive (S4SD) and is funded by $1,000 grants from the Ford Motor Company and the Michigan Department of Transportation. This will be the tenth consecutive year that OASD students who work at the school’s FM station have conducted this campaign. While there have been two or three other Upper Peninsula schools who have joined S4SD in the past, the Ontonagon Area School District is the only U.P. school to have participated continuously over the past decade. Students at the school will be challenged to create original posters, buttons, and coloring pages that will be judged and put on display. The contests will run until late March 2025 and the winners will be announced in early April.
Faculty advisors for the local S4SD campaign (called Don’t be Distracted or DbD10 for short) include Betsy Guilbault, Jon Uotila, Natalie Rios and WOAS-FM manager Ken Raisanen.
