We are here, but we are not here . . .
Okay – now I sound like the Mandarin in Iron Man 3 – what I mean to say, is WOAS-FM has been granted a new home at 91.5 FM – unfortunately our old tower elements are tuned to our old frequency – and they are over forty years old. We COULD broadcast at 15 watts without triggering our transmitter’s ‘safe mode’ (which would shut it down). The FCC, however, says we can not broadcast below the 99 watts we applied to use – we can, however, keep broadcasting where you are reading this note – www.woas-fm.org (scroll down to LIVE STREAM (the icon to the right has never worked so don’t go there). Yes, it would have been nice to know this back in the fall, but we had no way to test the tower elements until we had an approved frequency to move to – which we finally had on December 19, 2024.
That is the bad news – the good news is – thanks to your generosity, we still have enough money from our 2023 fundraising campaign to cover the cost of the new tower elements. They will be on order soon but (obviously) we do not expect anyone to climb the tower in this kind of winter weather. Therefore, our student and evening DJs will only be seen and heard online – when we get back to 91.5 over the airwaves, we will let you know.
As Paul Harvey used to say, “And now, you know the rest of the story.” Thank you for your patience! Ken Raisanen, WOAS-FM GM
