WOAS Equipment Replacement Campaign
WOAS-FM 88.5 will begin the new year with a Schwans Cares fundraising campaign to help replace some of our studio equipment. The WOAS EQUIPMENT REPLACEMENT campaign will begin on January 1, 2019 and anyone who orders products from Schwans can donate to WOAS simply by including the campaign’s number 44259 . Schwans will donate 20% of any order (and 40% for any e-gift cards ordered) at no additional cost to the ordering party. The 20 % donation window continues for 45 days after which, 5% of orders will be donated for an additional 60 days. Schwan orders may be placed on line at Schwans.com or by phone at 1-885-870-7208. There is no better way to start the new year than having a 135 days in which you can help make a difference at YOUR SOUND CHOICE – WOAS-FM 88.5.
WOAS-FM is an all volunteer organization operated by students of the Ontonagon Area Schools and members of the local communities that comprise the school district. The station was founded in 1978 utilizing grant funds, volunteer labor, and donations. The last large scale fundraiser for WOAS-FM was held in 1997 when the Ontonagon Area Schools, UPPCO, and public donations brought in $9,000 to help fund studio remodeling and equipment replacements over a two year period.
Many of the devices used in the broadcast and production studios are now twenty years old and wearing out. The station income from the Funding Factory ink and laser-jet recycling program has declined dramatically over the past ten years. The station’s only other income source is the vending machines located at the OASD school. The proceeds from these two machines are split between WOAS-FM and Jr. High Student Council projects.
Schwans customers are reminded that they only need to write in the WOAS-FM campaign number (44259) when placing their online orders at Schwans.com. If placing a phone order, be sure to have this number on hand when you place the call.
If you are not a Schwans customer and would still like to help with the Equipment Replacement Fund, donations can be sent to WOAS-FM 88.5, 701 Parker Ave. Ontonagon, MI 49953. Those making donations are reminded that WOAS-FM is a non-profit organization run by a 100% volunteer staff and donations are tax deductible. WOAS-FM 88.5 has been YOUR SOUND CHOICE in Ontonagon County for the past 40 years and we deeply appreciate the public’s past and future support.
